MESSAGE FROM THE PRIESTAs we prepare to celebrate the great events of our salvation, I want to implore you to approach this holy season with hearts and minds that are worthy of the love that Christ showed us, in his great sacrifice. Let us eschew all forms of hatred, gossips, rumours and ill feelings. Let us allow Christ to be rooted in all of our actions. FROM ST. VINCENT OF PAUL SOCIETYSt. Philomena's Home Visit
The Society of St. Vincent of Paul from St. Louis Parish, spent a day with the Kids at St. Philomena's Home.
Some of the memebers spent time with the older girls discussing substance abuse, the many dangers of it and how our societydeals with it, while the other members spent time with the younger girls at the pool area.
St. Philomena's was started in 1895 by Mother Mary of the Cross and after many obstacles, eventually planted its roots in Sydenham in 1975. Today it is a well established home which lies in a quite and well secured enviroment which consists of 40 girls between the ages of 6 to 19 years old and has 8 housemothers, one cook, one Child and Youth Care Manager and a Social Worker.
The SSVdP is an international organization which serves the poor in every way, including spiritual upliftment, outreach programs and assistance with grants. This organisation extends its hand to everyone in need, regardless of race and creed.
Family work is kept at its highest confidential level and the society is always appreciative of donations in cash, items or assistance. The Societymeets every monday night at 7 pm and welcomes new members.
